I have stated before that I am no longer a Republican first but rather a Conservative. I find myself in unusual territory during this political season. Never before in my 38 years of voting have I ever had trouble deciding who to vote for or whether to vote at all. This year, despite a complete lack of support for John McCain, I have tried to convince myself that it is better to vote for him than for the alternative. Every time I get close to achieving this concept, John McCain does something to make me question my intelligence in voting for him. John may have been a war hero, but he is not a political hero be any stretch of the imagination. Republicans continue to loose ground across the nation. Still I hear no cogent plan, no Republican standing up to state their case. Republicans seem to be on the run to simply appear to be like Democrats. Yet, in doing so, the continue to alienate their base. They can't win enough democratic voters to succeed and they appear hell-bent on ignoring their base. This is a recipe for disaster come Fall.
Are there any true leaders in the Republican party? I really wonder.
Based on yesterdays vote count for the
Pelose War Bill, it appears that Bohner has no leadership skills and had no plan. Thanks to Representatives Pence (R-CA) and Lewis (R-CA), something got done. Perhaps in the greatest leadership vacuum of all time for the Republican party, perhaps new conservative leaders will begin to emerge.
