I need to address the question that is on
everyone’s mind since the election…”What should Republicans do?” I have
been a Republican for 35 years. I voted for Republicans during this
last election NOT because they deserved it, rather because of 5 basic
principles:
- I don’t believe the principle of cut-and-run makes my family safer.
- I don’t believe we should go back on our word to the Iraqi people.
- I don’t believe that providing benefits and entitlements to illegal aliens will strengthen our economy.
- I don’t believe that following the European example of entitlements will strengthen our economy or help individuals.
- I do believe that supporting gay marriage is wrong and immoral.
The
results of the election sadden me, however, what I have seen in the
last two days angers me more. The Republicans lost, so what. What are
we going to do about it? What principles are we going to hold fast to
and fight for? What I have seen the last two days are not Republicans
who lost, rather Republicans who are acting like losers by moving more
toward the Democratic position.
Republicans didn’t loose because of the Iraq war. Republicans lost for two reasons:
- They did not follow conservative principles
- They did not get out and state their case effectively
Republicans
have less than two years to prove to me that they can correct these
errors and do it effectively. If they don’t, they will suffer a greater
loss than the one they had two days ago. My patience will not last
forever. John McCain is not the future of the Republican party, basic
conservative principles are.
