Confessions of a Conservative

I admit it, I'm a conservative.  According to the Media and Democrats, I'm bigoted, mean-spirited and a racist.  I support taxes on the rich, am not concerned with the health of women, have no concern for the environment, support big oil companies, and a warmonger.  So, I confess...I am a conservative and here are my beliefs.

Bigotry:  I'm not bigoted.  I do not support homosexual agendas but I have many friends who are homosexual.  I cherish my friendship with them.  Why the contrast?  It comes from a deep spiritual belief in Christ AND a belief in the scriptures.  I don't try to justify that scriptural references mean something else, they don't...they are quite clear.  Having said that, the scriptures say that we should love all people.  I do.  That does not mean that I have to agree with their behavior.  No matter how much the media tries to blur the lines, it is clear.

Racism: I despise racism.  I was taught not to hate other racists and I teach my children the same principles.  Personally, I believe those that are the most involved in creating racism are the racebaiter.  Racebaiter are those who find racism even when it doesn't exist and are not apologetic when they are wrong.  It is true that racism exists, it is true that it needs to be removed.  I continue to do my part to by being an example and teach my children correct principles.

Tax Cuts: I do support tax cuts, including President Bush's, so do I support taxes on the rich?  It depends on how you define it. During the recent election, there was a senatorial campaign that stated how he had received over $90,000 in tax cuts compared to a person in poverty only receiving $400.  He stated that this was an example of supporting tax cuts for the rich.  He failed to mention that he was making multimillion every year and the person he referred to made only $20,000 per year.  Do the math, they both received approximately the same "percentage" of funds back in tax cuts.  My family and I received approximately $800 back in tax cuts.  Does that tell you which end of the spectrum I am on?

Abortion: Believe it or not, I support abortion!  How can that be?  I support it in cases of rape, incest and the health of the woman.  I do NOT support abortion on demand.  I do not support government funded abortions. Why?  There are many reasons.  The most important reason is that "abortion on demand" does not teach participants anything.  We learn as we go through life by our mistakes.  When we try to cover up the natural consequences, we do not learn.  If we want to teach people not to have unplanned pregnancies, there must be a consequence for having unprotected sex.  The "natural consequence" is that a woman may get pregnant.  It sounds harsh, but it is.  The only other option for avoiding the consequence is to kill a live fetus...that is very harsh. 

Environment/Oil:  I support being a good steward of our planet and our resources.  I would love to have the opportunity to purchase a environmental vehicle that does not use gas.  We (my wife and I) have plans to look at alternative vehicles in the next couple of years.  The prices are finally coming down low enough that we may be able to consider it.  I also would love, to NOT have to buy one drop of oil from the middle east.  We triumphed in the cold war through economics.  I actually believe the solution to the middle east problems will be helped when we remove the oil money from the pockets of terrorists.  In the mean time, we need to work towards becoming energy sufficient FAST.  This includes both alternative fuels AND unfortunately oil as well.  Not allowing the U.S. to use it's own resources, even temporarily, is as irresponsible as relying only on oil alone.  Until this occurs, we will never be able to progress without military options.

War in Iraq:  I support the war, we can win if we allow the troops to do their job and stop holding them back.  "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."  Millions of Iraqis voted for their freedom.  If they didn't want freedom, why did they vote for it.  If we as American's remain in a narcissistic state when it comes to freedom, we are doomed to loose it.  The surprising thing to me is that I am not aware of one battle that we have lost in Iraq, however, everyone is saying that we are loosing the war.  Currently "Cut and Run" policies of the democrats are playing right into the hands of the islamicfascists.  We will pay a heavy price for our ignorance.

So there it is!  I'm not quite the evil person portrayed by media and democrats.  I have a very close friend who is very liberal.  He was sharing his thoughts about how evil the conservative movement had been.  I told him that he would be surprised how much alike we really are.  We discussed these topics for a while and in the end, he agreed with me that we were a lot closer that he had thought.  We still disagree on the war but we both have greater respect for each other. 

Do yourselves a favor, turn off the mainstream media, it will only dull your senses.
